Filming in Philly
As you might imagine, attempting to shoot our first feature length film in 2020 (in december) during the pandemic was very challenging. But the fact that no bars were open for business, helped us lock down ALL the locations we wanted, so that was cool.
Filming in philly was also relatively easy compared to other places we have worked in. It's our home, so, we know all the spots, we know all the people, we know the vibe. Because Philly has never been over saturated with film and tv productions, the people are rather very welcoming toward film crews. We were only asked to show our permit one time during the entire shoot!
We always envisioned snow on the ground for some of the film and we were worried at first that we would have to try to replicate snow if mother nature didn't deliver. Some folks had recommended packing peanuts, saying that scattered across the ground from a distance will look just like snow. Another friend reminded me that they used rock salt for the Shining, but that was thousands of pounds. It was beginning to look like any of these alternatives were not going to be a plausible option considering the timeline and our budget so we sadly had to erase the idea of snow in the film from our minds all together. Well wouldn't you know, low and behold, it snowed! It snowed more than once during the shoot (including Christmas!) so we ultimately got some of the beautiful shots we wished for.
